Tourism New Zealand had partnered with the Queenstown-based Winter Games since the inaugural 2009 event and as a result the games had carried the 100% pure New Zealand logo.
Winter Games chief executive Arthur Klap said the win helped highlight the successful relationship and could help secure future partnerships.
"The games itself is a strong product, but you need strong allies," he said yesterday.
Tourism New Zealand chief executive Kevin Bowler said the company was delighted to win the award alongside the Winter Games.
"The opportunity to work alongside Winter Games NZ has allowed us to promote New Zealand's landscapes and winter activities and showcase New Zealand as a premium winter market destination."
Mr Klap said although Tourism NZ would not be the naming sponsor for the 2013 games, its involvement would be extensive.
"There's a move for the games to become financially self-sustainable and that means bringing in more commercial partners."
The Winter Games attracted more than 1400 competitors and management from 36 countries as well as more than 1500 international visitors.
