The father of a former Mount Aspiring College pupil rumoured to be dating actress Lindsay Lohan says he is blissfully ignorant over his son's alleged involvement with the troubled Hollywood starlet.

"The last thing a son wants is for his father to know about his relationships," John Falls said of his Los Angeles-based son, Spencer Falls (22).

"I don't know the nature of their relationship at all."

Falls, who spent his last year of high school at Mount Aspiring College in Wanaka and several winters after that as a successful sponsored snowboarder in the area, has been hitting headlines worldwide as Lohan's rumoured new love interest.

The pair have been spotted leaving Lohan's Venice Beach home and on a dinner date at Hollywood's Chateau Marmont hotel. They also starred in a raunchy photo shoot together.

Falls' father, an apple-grower in Havelock North, said snowboarding was his son's "first love", hence his strong connection with Wanaka.

"When he'd decided that he'd taken that as far as he could as far as vocation was concerned, he decided that he'd better go to LA and become an actor."

The budding actor still held Wanaka "very dear to his heart", which was evident on his Facebook profile page where he listed it as his home town, despite growing up in Havelock North.

Falls moved to Los Angeles about 18 months ago and began taking acting lessons and attending auditions.

In April, he landed a role as the male half of spoof celebrity couple "Sparah" as part of a Virgin Mobile marketing campaign. Together with on-screen celebrity girlfriend Sarah Carroll, Falls appears in a series of commercials and social media posts. As part of the role, he enjoys all the celebrity trappings, including his own stylist, a chauffeur-driven car and invites to red-carpet events where he rubs shoulders with Hollywood elite.

"He's got the job most people of his age wouldn't mind having at all . . . he's having a whale of a time," Mr Falls said.

The first Mr Falls heard of his son's alleged fling with Lohan was when a radio station rang him this week to quiz him about the rumour.

"I was completely ignorant."

He described his son as a "real nice bloke" and said he was confident he would not be led astray by Lohan, who has had a series of run-ins with the law and several stints in rehab.

"I don't think he's going to fall off the rails and go wild with Lindsay Lohan."

Falls has not been back in New Zealand for at least two years.
