Wanaka Landfill Ltd has been given seven days to provide evidence of the history of gravel importation and processing on its Ballantyne Rd site, Queenstown Lakes District Council chief executive Duncan Field said yesterday.
The council excluded the public from its consideration of Wanaka gravel extraction and processing issues at a meeting in Wanaka on Tuesday.
When contacted, Mr Field said the council had considered and supported the approach he had taken on Wanaka Landfill Ltd.
He said compliance issues were already being investigated by Lakes Environmental "and if there is non-compliance with key issues (dust etc) then they will be addressed by Lakes Environmental".
"In regard to importing gravel we are asking for evidence of that occurring in the past.
A seven-day deadline has been placed on securing that information," Mr Field said.
Riverbank Rd residents allege Wanaka Landfill Ltd is operating in breach of resource consent conditions, including importing gravel for processing, and have criticised Mr Field for using his discretion to permit Wanaka Landfill Ltd to continue operating.
Submissions were presented at Tuesday's public forum by Jo Dippie, who also read out a submission on behalf of Dale and Angus Gordon.
Ms Dippie described the activities as a "blatant disregard for the rules" and said there was no prior history of another gravel operator importing gravel on to the site.
The Gordons' submission described the attitude of Wanaka Landfill Ltd and Mr Field as "cavalier".
Another neighbour, John Wellington, said the neighbours were relying on the council to defend the consent granted by independent commissioners.
