The deaths of a Queenstown tramping guide and a United Kingdom tourist will be subject to inquests before Coroner David Crerar in Queenstown tomorrow.
Mitchell James Walker (22) was found dead on the Greenstone Track on January 22, having been reported missing the day earlier after failing to return for dinner.
Mr Walker, an Ultimate Hikes guide, radioed about 3.30pm on January 21 saying he would be home for dinner, but never returned from an exploration of an area south of McKellar Hut, above the Greenstone Track.
A search and rescue team found his body the next day in a gorge on the eastern side of the Livingstone mountain range.
He appeared to have been trying to climb down from a ridge to the Greenstone Valley floor when he fell about 40m into a rugged creek bed.
The second inquest before Mr Crerar tomorrow will examine the death of James Patrick Smith (25), of Kent, England.
Mr Smith was found dead on June 5 after apparently falling about 10m from a building in the heart of Queenstown.
He was last seen alive at Altitude Bar, in Shotover St, and had only been in the resort, where he was looking for a job, for a few days .
His body was found by a staff member from Base Discovery Lodge about 1.40am, lying in an alleyway between the Base-Altitude Bar building and a reserve opposite the Mountaineer development.
