Two Dunedin men have been the first to be arrested for breaching Wanaka's liquor ban, which covers central public areas, including the lake shore, and areas at Lake Hawea until January 5.
Snr Const Ian Henderson said yesterday the young men were arrested in Wanaka on Sunday night. They will appear in the Queenstown District Court soon.
The liquor ban penalties are a fine up to $20,000 and confiscation of alcohol.
•Wanaka police say they know who they want to talk to regarding a serious assault outside bars in Post Office Lane in the weekend and it is just a matter of time before they catch up with the men, from Christchurch and Southland.

The victim was discharged from hospital on Sunday after one night.
