Trust decides not to be

Queenstown Shakespeare members, at their meeting last Sunday, unanimously voted to wind up the trust and return as another entity, most likely an incorporated society.

The new group would not produce a major play in 2009 but was likely to perform some of Shakespeare's most well-known scenes during the Summerdaze Festival in 2010.

About 14 members gathered to hear the case for becoming a society.

President Jo Blick said it was a pragmatic move: operating as a trust meant an extra layer of bureaucracy when the day-to-day running was done by a committee.

The group, reported solvent after fundraising, would perform another six-week winter season of Sunday playreadings, she said.
