More than 200 children enjoyed the Junior Challenge Wanaka yesterday morning, in calm, cool conditions between northwesterly storms.

The event attracted hundreds of spectators and launched the 2010 Challenge Wanaka triathlon festival, which continues with a fun run this evening, a lake swim on Wednesday morning, Triathlon New Zealand's Contact Cup series races on Friday and the long distance races on Saturday.

The winners of each age group have earned the privilege of greeting the winners as they finish on Saturday afternoon.

Each participant yesterday received a T-shirt, a gift from Puzzling World and a certificate.

The winners were Archie Martinovich (boys 6-7 years), Emily Hurdle (girls 6-7 years), Toby Jarvie (boys 8-9 years), Anna Leat (girls 8-9 years), William Sutherland (boys 10-12 years), Casey Strachan (girls 10-12 years), Logan Garforth (boys 13-15 years), Georgia Vessey (girls 13-15 years).
