A public toilet at Millbrook Corner in Arrowtown is expected to be ready for the next summer sporting season.
At the Queenstown Lakes District Council's community services committee meeting yesterday, it was agreed that a draft agreement between the Millbrook Cricket Club and the council be approved and ''construction of the building proceeds as approved in principle and provided for in the agreement''.
The Arrowtown Community Sports Centre had planned for a building - to include a kitchen, bar, rugby changing rooms and toilet - at Jack Reid Park, for which the council had also previously resolved to grant a lease.
At the committee's meeting last month, the idea the Arrowtown Community and Sports Centre could work with the cricket club and other clubs to construct one building at Millbrook Corner was raised and this was generally supported by club representatives at a meeting facilitated by the council's chief executive.
However, the Millbrook Cricket Club did not want the public toilet delayed and the draft agreement states it is agreed the council will contribute a maximum of $50,000 towards its construction.
