The quintessential garment may be worn under other layers at the sub-zero Russian venue, but the hope is the athletes ''will pull it on and feel a sense of mana and support from back in New Zealand'', Mons Royale founder Hamish Acland said.
The full line-up of black, blue, red and white clothes which make up the New Zealand uniform were unveiled at Earnslaw Park in Queenstown on Saturday, in front of Winter Games New Zealand guests and public.
The one-piece merino base layer was specially designed for warmth and comfort by Wanaka-based Mons Royale. Freeskier Jossi Wells said he approved of the ''Olympic Monsie''.
''Base layer separates are great, but you always get gaps, especially when you're pushing it.
''The Monsie just works better. Plus it's super-comfy to kick back in.''
The outerwear range features high-tech fabrics, closures and fillings while the casual range includes hooded sweatshirts, skinny jeans and puffer jackets.
Ceremonial wear will be revealed in February.
About 20 athletes are expected to represent New Zealand at the Games on February 7 to 23.
