Public submissions on a new draft plaques, memorials and monuments policy will be called for by the Queenstown Lakes District Council, a subcommittee has resolved.
Parks officer Cara Doyle tabled the draft policy at the community services committee meeting on Tuesday.
The policy aimed to clarify how the council marked sites of significance in the district and to avoid the "ad hoc, prolific, inappropriate, or widely varying placement" of markers.
Requests occasionally came in for the placement of plaques and memorials, usually on seats in parks and other public spaces.
However, concern had been expressed parks should be kept free of personal memorials, Ms Doyle said in her report.
The policy would cover all proposed plaques and memorials on land and property the council controlled.
