An amended Wanaka sports facilities discussion document released to the public yesterday afternoon is expected to create considerable debate.
The document was hotly debated by the Wanaka Community Board on Tuesday before the majority of the board resolved to release it, with proposed amendments (mostly editing changes) to be overseen by chairman Lyal Cocks.
The document was prepared by Nick Brown for a working party chaired by Mike Saunders.
The working party was set up by the Queenstown Lakes District Council earlier this year after an informal group approached the board asking for a "sport hub" to be placed on the Wanaka showgrounds and the Wanaka Lakeview Holiday Park.
Such a placement would mean closing the camp.
The working party investigated four sites before announcing the preferred option was that suggested by the informal group.
This led to allegations of predetermination by board deputy chairman Ken Copland on Tuesday.
Members of the working party have defended their work and have denied taking a set view.
Mr Saunders said in a media release yesterday the document deserved serious consideration.
The choice of a sports hub was a major community undertaking.
The four sites discussed in the document were the showgrounds/camping ground, a greenfields site, Kelly's Flat and Lismore Park.
The document includes a proposal to co-locate a proposed aquatic centre with an indoor stadium.
