Speed limits reduced from July

The permitted speed on four stretches of road in the Queenstown Lakes district will be lowered after a change to the speed limit bylaw was approved by the Queenstown Lakes District Council.

On Ballantyne Rd in Wanaka, from 50m south of Frederick St to 180m south of Riverbank Rd, the speed limit will be reduced from 100kmh to 80kmh.

It will be reduced from 50km to 30km for the entire lengths of Joe O'Connell Dr and Camp Ln, both in Frankton.

The speed limit at Searle Ln in Queenstown will be reduced from 50kmh to 10kmh.

Council network operations engineer Ian Marshall said the changes had been publicly notified last year. Submissions had been received, but none of the people expressing their intention to speak came to the public hearing in March.

The changes will take effect from July 1, 2010.
