The Southern Women's Ice Hockey team also performed with distinction at the National Championships in Christchurch last month, beating Canterbury and Auckland to win the gold medal for the second consecutive year.
Manager Sarah Strain said Southern beat Canterbury 3-2 in its first game and 8-2 in the second, while the team held Auckland scoreless in both its games, winning 14-0 and 10-0.
Ms Strain said Dunedin's Jenel Bode won the most valuable player award, best forward was Susan Green, of Albury, Anna Goulding, of Gore, was best defence. and Olivia MacDonald, of Dunedin, was top goalie.
The women had played only a couple of tournaments and trained together three times before heading to Christchurch, so the result was outstanding, she said.

The remaining players were registered at Gore, Dunedin and Albury.
The Wakatipu High School team will be in action this week in Dunedin, against nine other teams from Christchurch south, in the South Island secondary schools tournament, which concludes on Thursday.
