Some took a wrong turn, got slightly disoriented and ended up running or walking the 15km cycle leg of the 2011 New World Wakatipu Trail Blazer on Friday night, while other cyclists managed to complete the 7.5km walking and running section in 20 minutes, but ultimately it was for a good cause.
The Trail Blazer raised a total of $360,500 towards the 90km Queenstown Trail, leaving just $139,500 to raise before next September.
The total had been sitting at $177,000, matched by the trustees of former Alliance Freezing Co chairman Peter Wilding's estate, but was boosted by further donations at the end of the event.
About 400 people took part in the event, traversing primarily private land from Jacks Point to Jardine Park.
