Winter may be fading and the Southern Lakes skifields closed for the year, but the country's leading ski and snowboard industry figures are already thinking about next season.

New Zealand's biggest snow trade expo finishes in Wanaka today after four days of retail and wholesale dealing by the industry's biggest brands and leading suppliers.

New Zealand Snow Industries Federation executive director Miles Davidson said the expo featured about 41 exhibitors and attracted more than 80 retailers.

Held at the National Transport and Toy Museum at Wanaka Airport this year, the biennial expo alternates between the South and North Islands.

It is the second time the event has been hosted at Wanaka Airport, after it shifted from Christchurch.

It is the first time most of the merchandise on display at the expo has been seen.

Next season's skis, snowboards and outerwear products from leading brands such as Dynastar, Atomic, Volkl, Burton Snowboards, and Scott were on display.

"It's a chance for retailers from around the country to inspect what's going to be hot on the slopes next year," Mr Davidson said.

The expo finishes today, and a trade "snow day" will be held at Cardrona Alpine Resort tomorrow.
