Several Southern snowsports dogs have been exposed to a high-risk but common parvo dog virus, causing the cancellation of the 45 Below Sled Dog Race at the Snow Farm, in the Cardrona Valley, this weekend.
Sled dog owner and race owner Diane Holiday, of Irishmans Creek, Mackenzie Country, said yesterday the number of entries for the event tomorrow had not been high.
Mrs Holiday said sled dog owners realised a fortnight ago at Naseby that some dogs had been exposed to parvo.
Although there was only a very small chance dogs would become infected, it was not worth the risk, she said.
