Up to 85 bus drivers took part in New Zealand's first skifield bus driver information day at Coronet Peak near Queenstown on Saturday.
The day was an initiative run by the Otago-Southland Heavy Motor Vehicle Safety Intervention group which includes the NZ Transport Agency, ACC, NZ Police, the Department of Labour and the Bus and Coach Association.
Group spokesperson Andrew Savage said the group wanted to target skifield bus drivers to help them handle the demands of skifield access-road driving better.
The day was a great success, he said.
He said 85 drivers from Invercargill to Timaru attended the event from 11am to 4pm.
It aimed to give skifield bus drivers the knowledge and know-how to keep themselves, their passengers and other skifield access-road drivers safe.
Topics covered included bus dynamics and maintenance and a practical session on driving in alpine conditions was held.
