Sixth drugs ring suspect apprehended at casino

A sixth arrest was made at the Auckland SkyCity Casino on Sunday night as a result of last week's Queenstown-Auckland police drugs bust operation.

Two of those previously arrested were yesterday remanded on bail in Queenstown.

A 34-year-old Auckland man was apprehended by police on Sunday night at the Auckland casino and faced nine separate methamphetamine charges at the Auckland District Court yesterday, one of conspiring to deal, one manufacturing of and seven counts of supply of the class A drug.

He was remanded in custody and will appear for sentencing via video link on May 7.

Police officers and a clandestine laboratory squad had been looking for him since last Thursday in relation to a meth lab in Mt Wellington, where a kilogram of the medicine Contact NT, for colds, had been found.

A kilogram of Contact NT could be used to make up to 280g of P, with an estimated street value of about $113,000.

At the Queenstown District Court tattooist Adam Paul Bamford (31) was charged with possession of a bong for the purpose of smoking cannabis, possession of a pipe for the purpose of smoking methamphetamine and possession of the class C drug cannabis.

His housemate, Hayden Mark Smith (31) also appeared before a registrar yesterday on two charges - the possession of the class B drug ecstasy and the class C drug cannabis.

All charges were in relation to April 12 and both men will appear at the Queenstown District Court on Monday, April 23.

The pair, along with Richard David Allen (31), of Queenstown, Stephen Ron Van Engelen, (31) of Auckland, and a 26-year-old woman, who has yet to appear in court, were arrested last Thursday.

Engelen was granted bail last week at the Auckland District Court and on May 4 will face four charges of supply, and one of conspiring with two others to supply the class A drug methamphetamine.
