Bella Kalolo is ready to electrify Queenstown with soul power when the Christchurch-born singer celebrates the release of her new EP with a live show late this month.

Kalolo has worked with top Kiwi artists Dave Dobbyn, Hollie Smith, Don McGlashan, Nathan Haines and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, among others.

She has travelled the world with her music, winning accolades at the Glastonbury and City of London festivals, as well as winning best female vocalist at the Pacific Music Awards.

The Auckland-based singer of Maori (Ngati Porou), Samoan and Tongan heritage grew up with music around her. She won a scholarship to Paraguay when she was 17 and joined a band, Dos Tribus, which had top-10 hits in the South American charts.

Returning to New Zealand, she worked in musical theatre and television, appearing on Dancing with the Stars and took the lead role in TV2 children's series, Jandals Away.

She performed in the Kiwi films Sione's Wedding, Matariki and The Orator and toured most recently in the United States with Aaradhna, J Boog and Katchafire.

Her extended play release Time and Space out now is the follow-up to her debut album Without the Paper, which gained positive reviews in 2011.

• Arts on Tour NZ brings Bella Kalolo and band on her Time and Space EP tour to the Queenstown Memorial Centre on October 29 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost $25 cash from i-Site Queenstown Visitor Centre, or at the box office on the night.
