A panel of three Queenstown Lakes District Council commissioners has been formed to conduct a full hearing on public submissions on the proposed development of the Shotover country special zone.
At a QLDC strategy committee meeting on Tuesday, Crs Lyal Cocks, Cath Gilmour and Leigh Overton were selected to preside at what is expected to be a four to five-day hearing, tentatively set to begin on February 28 next year.
The privately initiated plan change is proposing the creation of a family-style residential neighbourhood on river terraces next door to the Lake Hayes Estate neighbourhood, and close to the existing communities at Frankton and Quail Rise.
The site lies east of the Shotover River and south of Ladies Mile.
QLDC senior policy analyst Karen Page presented the report to the council. The original plan was accepted by the council in April and since then there have been 133 submissions on the proposed plan change, of which 112 were in support, 20 were in opposition and one was neutral.
Public submissions closed on October 15.
The proposal includes plans to build 758 houses and develop a park, ride facility and public transport.
At the strategy meeting, councillors were also updated by the QLDC policy and planning team on progress with 19 of a total of 42 plan changes under consideration.
