A major search and rescue operation was under way in Queenstown last night after a kayaker was reported to be in trouble on Lake Wakatipu.
The kayaker was spotted by a member of the public getting into difficulty near Hidden Island, shortly after 10pm.
Authorities were alerted and the Queenstown Coastguard and helicopters were called to the scene, a police spokesman said.
The search was continuing late last night.
No further details were available.
