Property sales figures from the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand show that median sale prices for Wanaka properties have dropped $27,500 in the past 12 months.

However, the number of sales in Upper Clutha during June have jumped more than 60% compared with last year.

Median property prices for the Upper Clutha dropped to $440,000 in June 2009, compared with an average sales price of $467,000 for the same month, last year.

A 5.8% drop in the average price of properties sold, may have contributed to a 60% rise in the number of Upper Clutha properties being sold, the REINZ website says.

There were 32 sales during June this year compared with 20 for June 2008.

However, it is taking longer for Upper Clutha vendors to sell their properties.

The median number of days taken to sell a property has ballooned by 15, when comparing June figures for 2008 and 2009.

A rise of almost 20% during the past 12 months means homeowners took an average of 91 days to sell their properties, this June, compared with 76 days for June last year.
