Harrison Rogers (3), of Queenstown, was helped into a life-jacket by the Alpine Aqualand water safety mascot he named in a competition this week.

Harrison, who said he chose "Paddles" because polar bears paddle, gave his approval to the mascot for the "nice hugs".

Harrison won free swimming lessons for a term as the prize.

Aquatics manager Alex Calwell said the name was chosen out of 150 entries because it was simple and was appropriate for Alpine Aqualand's water safety message.

"Hopefully it will evoke some fun images for the kids when we take them out and about."
