Running clinic raises cash for charity

The first Run Like a Girl clinic has raised $581 for the Pink Pilates Trust.

The clinic, organised by The Studio physiotherapist and pilates instructor Louise Parker, of Queenstown, was a six-week programme to teach women how to run.

Ms Parker said 40 women attended the clinic from March 23 to May 5.

The clinic was free but each week the women gave donations to the Pink Pilates Trust, a foundation supported by the Breast Cancer Foundation to help women recover from breast cancer treatment.

Queenstown health and fitness professionals donated their time to run the six weekly sessions.

The team was Ms Parker, Queenstown Podiatry sports podiatrist Gareth Milne, Queenstown Naturopathy naturopath Emma Pearce, Funktional Fitness trainers Sarah Cole and Richie Lambert, long-distance runner Chris Dagg and Shoe Clinic running technicians Amanda Kisby and Elias Lilo.

They had developed six one-hour sessions on how to run, including breathing techniques, posture, foot alignment and nutrition.

Ms Parker said the clinic was so successful and popular she was looking to organise another.
