Eight weeks after a kitchen fire caused its closure, Queenstown's Botswana Butchery restaurant will reopen for business on Monday.

On November 2, about 70 diners and 30 staff were evacuated when a fire started in an extraction system in the kitchen of the lakefront restaurant.

Good Group chief executive Russell Gray said smoke and water damage to the restaurant led to a "significant rebuild and refit", including the installation of a new kitchen extraction unit and a restaurant refurbishment.

Good Group general manager Sarah Stacey said the restaurant would reopen with a revamped wine list and a new private dining room upstairs with seating for up to 10 people.

"We were devastated when we had to close our doors, but are thrilled to be open in time for Christmas and New Year celebrations," she said.

Good Group Ltd is a hospitality company that operates 12 Betty's Liquor Stores, a range of bars and pubs, and the Botswana Butchery restaurants in Queenstown and Wanaka.
