Response to rezoning plan

The Queenstown Lakes District Council has received a good response from the public on the proposed extension of the Wanaka industrial zone on to rural general land between Frederick St and Gordon Rd.

Council senior policy adviser Alyson Hutton said she was preparing a summary of the issues raised for the council's strategy committee meeting on September 8.

About 24 feedback forms were returned, both in favour and opposing the zone extension, Mrs Hutton said.

Her report would underline the consultation taken on the zone extension so far and seek a mandate to continue the project, she said.

If the strategy committee agrees to take that course, formal public submissions will be sought.

The Wanaka 2020 planning process identified a need for more industrial land to cater for growth in the next decade.

A brochure outlining the proposal is available from the council and on its website.
