Resource consents to go online

In a bid to continue increasing efficiency, Lakes Environmental is looking to make some services accessible online, including electronic copies of about 17,000 resource consents.

Speaking at yesterday's Queenstown Lakes District Council finance and corporate committee meeting, Lakes Environmental chief executive Hamish Dobbie outlined the proposed steps for 2011-12 along with the company's annual report.

The council-controlled consent body was working to implement a new website, providing better information and enabling online inquiries and transactions, he said.

Included in this would be about 17,000 historical consents, which were expected to go online within the next 12 months in a move which would "improve transparency" and save customers a visit to the office.

He also expected the number of resource and building consent applications for Queenstown to rise over the next year, moving against the downward trend of the past four years.

"We are forecasting a small upward trend in resource consent applications . . . up to about 925 [from 857] . . . and [a rise in] building consents from 1100 in the last year to 1140."
