Rare display of embroidery

Original, innovative and skilled stitching and needlework by the Queenstown Embroidery Guild will be on display at the Lakes District Museum from Saturday until July 14.

About 140 pieces of meticulously detailed embroidery have been contributed by 23 members of the 34-strong guild for the rare showcase called ''Luv to Stitch'' in the gallery at the Arrowtown museum.

The pieces were created over the past five years, committee member Cheryl Collie, of Queenstown, said.

Members were inspired by a presentation and examples given by master milliner and designer Lindsay Kennett, of Dunedin.

Embroidery dating back to the 1950s and '60s was given by Joy Soper, of Frankton, a founder of the guild, to the archive collection and some of her examples will also be displayed.

Entry to ''Luv to Stitch'' at the Lakes District Museum is by gold-coin donation.
