With the opening of Coronet Peak Ski Area just eight weeks away, there was no better reminder winter was on its way than the 10cm of snow that fell at the skifield on Tuesday night, and also at The Remarkables Ski Area.

Cold temperatures and light snowfalls continued through yesterday.

Further north, Mt Hutt received 20cm of snow.

The Remarkables Ski Area manager Ross Lawrence said the mountain turned from green to white overnight, and snow fell to the 6km mark on the access road.

"It's a fantastic early reminder for skiers and snowboarders to get their snow gear and passes sorted for when the season opens in June," he said.

Coronet Peak is scheduled to open on June 6, Mt Hutt is scheduled to open on June 13 and The Remarkables is scheduled to open on June 20.
