Queenstown restaurateurs Grant and Karen Hattaway will provide lunchtime fare at Steamer Wharf from next month.

The owners of Pier 19 for the past 18 months and Captains Restaurant since 2002 bought the lease for The Juice Stop two weeks ago.

Juice Stop owners Pew Singh and Martine Baanvinger announced they were moving to Golden Bay last month after more than four years in the resort.

The Hattaways are refitting the premises and will rename the eatery The Good Food Company.

The new-look deli and lunch bar would open in mid-June before Winter Festival, they said.

Mr Hattaway said Steamer Wharf was becoming the "pre-eminent hospitality area" in town and they believed in investing in it.

They would be catering to downtown workers, visitors and TSS Earnslaw passengers, he said.

Mrs Hattaway said they felt there was a market "for some really good homemade fresh Kiwi fare that you don't need to take out a mortgage to buy".

The Good Food Company would make a range of fresh-baked goods, salads, soups and beverages to sell for about $10.

The Hattaways are looking at hiring two or three full-time staff and seating will remain inside and out.

The busy couple is also behind Hattaways Business and Hospitality Consultancy, which advises new food and beverage company owners as they start up.
