Positive visitor survey delights

Visitor satisfaction with Queenstown is higher than ever, a survey shows.

The latest Regional Visitor Monitor research, which was released yesterday, showed 65% of visitors to Queenstown in the past year, rated their overall satisfaction with the town to be 9 or 10 out of 10.

This figure is up from the 56% of visitors who gave an equivalent rating three years earlier, Destination Queenstown reported.

The research also showed an increased interest in tourists returning to the resort, with more than two-thirds of visitors to Queenstown indicating they were very interested in returning.

Destination Queenstown chief executive Tony Everitt was "delighted" with the survey results.

"It's great to see sustainable demand building across all of the main visitor markets, particularly the Australia market. It is a great collective achievement for Queenstown that people are so happy with their experience and more and more are indicating they are very keen to return," he said.

Mr Everitt said the survey gave Destination Queenstown and local operators valuable insight.

"There is always room for improvement, so we need to continue to monitor research closely to ensure that, as a premier four-season resort town, we are providing the high levels of service. The Regional Visitor Monitor in particular gives insight into visitor expectations, satisfaction and how and why travel decisions are made, so the results can help highlight areas we need to develop further or improve," Mr Everitt said.

While Queenstown continued to stand out for its beautiful scenery, adventure and excitement, and a clean and unpolluted environment, the recent survey results also showed an increasing emphasis on relaxation.

Two-thirds of visitors sought information about accommodation, activities and attractions before they arrived.

The Regional Visitor Monitor was developed in 2005by the Ministry of Tourism, Tourism New Zealand and six of New Zealand's largest regional tourism organisations.
