Picture yourself in Arrowtown historic snap

Tomorrow afternoon Arrowtown's Buckingham St will be the backdrop for a history-making photograph ahead of the town's 150th anniversary celebrations at Labour Weekend.

Everyone who lives or works in Arrowtown has been invited to meet on the main street for the Otago Daily Times "Arrowtown Today" photograph, which will be buried in a time capsule marking the culmination of the sesquicentennial.

People had also been encouraged to register for the photograph - their names, occupations and addresses would be included with the photograph, adding another layer of value to the capsule when it is opened in 50 years.

While registrations were not compulsory, those who did register would also be able to buy the image for 50% off normal price.

Registrations can be made on the day.

Up to yesterday, more than 250 registrations had been received, but ODT commercial manager Matthew Holdridge anticipated many more people would be present for the 4pm photograph.

"The feedback we've had has been absolutely phenomenal - so many people are talking about this photograph and planning on coming down to Buckingham St on Sunday afternoon to be part of history.

"From what we can ascertain, there may never have been a photograph like this taken, so it's going to be a very special moment for those with affiliations to Arrowtown."

Buckingham St would be closed to traffic from 2.30pm to 5pm tomorrow to allow townspeople to gather, with the image to be taken from the Arrowtown Bakery end of the street.

Arrowtown 150 co-ordinator Julie Hughes said it would be a "fantastic opportunity" for the community to be part of "something very unique".
