She may be losing her voice, but Sally Whitewoods reckons organising Gay Ski Week NZ was worth it - and she is using every opportunity this week to learn, ahead of taking on the event again next year.

Mrs Whitewoods, of Queenstown, stepped in at the eleventh hour last week to rescue the event, now in its ninth year, and told the Queenstown Times yesterday the support from the local community and those booked to come to Queenstown for the event was "phenomenal".

One of the biggest jobs was to reorganise the traditional White Out party, which will be held at Revolver on Saturday night.

Yesterday afternoon Sydney-based DJ Adam Love confirmed he would attend - and given the precarious financial position of previous organiser Mike Sanford, who placed his company into voluntary liquidation, Love had offered to play for free.

"He was previously booked and then he heard it wasn't going to go ahead.

"I managed to get hold of him [through friends of friends] and so now we're just trying to sort out his flights."

The party will cap off the week. On Monday night revellers braved snow and ice to go to Cadillac Bar, which was "packed out".

Tonight they will head to the Winehouse and Kitchen for the Retro Ski Party, before karaoke with Miss Ribena tomorrow night and the Buff Party on Friday.

Attendance across all events had been excellent, with more women than previous years at each event.

"There's not many, but a lot more are appearing now they know the lesbians are helping.

"Next year it will be a different thing - it shouldn't be just about men; it should be a community event."

While initially hesitant to take on the organisation of the event, Mrs Whitewoods had decided "it might have to happen".

"The amount of people who have offered to help ... People have been really good."
