In just over two weeks, snow will be trucked to the Queenstown Rec Ground for the Parklife Invitational, which has moved from its former Earnslaw Park location.
The freestyle ski and snowboard competition is run by The Remarkables and last year organisers failed in their bid to stage it at the Recreation Ground, before the Rugby World Cup.
With no international rugby event to contend with, NZSki sales and marketing general manager Craig Douglas said "there is time this year for the ground to recover" from the ski competition, to be held on August 25.
"We couldn't use the recreation ground [last year] because it had been confirmed as a practice field for the Rugby World Cup," Mr Douglas said.
A form of matting would be used in some areas to protect the ground this year, he said, and it was important to note that different areas required different solutions.
"In some areas you've got trucks, some have people and some have snow."
The larger space would allow for longer rails and a new attraction, in the form of a Moto X stunt demonstration, which organisers say will give spectators more to watch.
Top riders and skiers, whose names will be released in coming days, will descend on the ground to compete at "street level". New Zealand Moto X rider Nick Franklin will be the headline act.
Based in Europe, Franklin will perform dirt bike demonstrations throughout the night.
The Remarkables ski area manager Ross Lawrence said this year's event was one he was really excited about.
"It showcases Queenstown as the premier snowsports resort, and is a great drawcard for the region.
"Bringing the top riders and skiers to street level really shows what our ski areas are all about," Mr Lawrence said.
"We move everything down from the ski area, including the rails and the snow, and set up a specially designed set of rails for one night of awesome action."
The entertainment will begin half an hour earlier than in previous years and the food and drink area has been given more space.
• Gates will open at 4.30pm on Saturday, August 25, and the event will run officially from 5.30pm to 9.30pm. Tickets can be bought for $5 from the Queenstown Snow Centre or through cash sales at the gate.
