The Queenstown Lakes District Council has approved a bylaw amendment which changes the Church St, Searle Lane, Earl St and Camp St parking restrictions and signs in Wanaka.
It has also authorised an investigation into options for management of the Church St car park and proposed parking charges.
Further, the Boundary St, Ballarat St and Recreation Ground public car parks have been declared restricted parking areas and charges have been imposed.
The decisions were made at the council's meeting in Wanaka on Tuesday.
The changes were required because of a new roading layout.
They were publicly notified and drew 11 submissions.
Councillors Gillian Macleod and Lex Perkins conducted a public hearing into the issues on July 1.
The main debate focused on the closure of Searle Lane from noon each day and a requested bus stop outside the backpackers on Church St.
The panel noted changes to Searle Lane may need tweaking again, because there are large commercial premises opening on to the lane.
The panel was keen to encourage "pedestrianisation" of Searle Lane.
