Outdoor adventures captured on film

Adventures from North America, Norway and the Antarctic appear on the silver screen when the world tour of the Banff Mountain Film Festival opens in the Queenstown Memorial Centre on May 2.

The Gimp Monkeys follows three friends as they attempt the first all-disabled ascent of Yosemite's El Capitan.

Unicorn Sashimi captures skiers and snowboarders in action, and Reel Rock 7: Wide Boyz profiles British off-width crack climbing specialists Pete Whittaker and Tom Randall.

Wanna Ride focuses on paragliding skiers on the French Alps, while Crossing the Ice follows Australians James Castrission and Justin Jones across the Antarctic to the South Pole and back, unassisted.

After the intermission Industrial Revolutions features top trials rider Danny MacAskill who uses an abandoned iron works as his playground.

The Dream Factory chronicles Alaskan ski and snowboarding culture, and On Thin Sea Ice 2, examines the pleasures of Norwegian skating and swimming.

Reel Rock Honnold 3.0, starring rock climber Alex Honnold versus the Yosemite Triple, rounds off the short film slate.

• Memorial centre doors open at 7pm for 7.30pm start. Tickets cost $25 and $20 from R&R Sport. All proceeds go to the alpine club.
