New school focus of forum

Parents, parents of prospective pupils and children are invited to the first Remarkables Primary School information forum at the Queenstown Events Centre on June 10.

The forum is an opportunity for members of the establishment board of trustees and principal Debbie Dickson to share with the community recent developments at the school site. Information would be provided on planning infrastructure for the school, including traffic design, the school vision, teaching and learning philosophy, as well as initial feedback from the parent survey.

Mrs Dickson said the information session would be interactive, with an opportunity for parents and pupils to brainstorm ideas.

A Queenstown Lakes District Council representative may attend to discuss the traffic plan for the Frankton school.

The forum would begin at 4pm in the first floor function room of the events centre.

For the first hour there would be a formal presentation by the board of the building plans and school philosophy and, hopefully, results from the enrolment survey, Mrs Dickson said.

A total of 377 forms were returned by the closing date of May 22 and the results were still being collated.

The survey was designed to help Queenstown and Remarkables primary schools plan and develop infrastructure, and establish the enrolment zone for Remarkables Primary next year.

From 5pm to 6pm, people could mingle informally with trustees and the principal.

A graffiti wall would be provided on which children could record their opinions on the school and its proposed playground facilities.

"It's a real opportunity for parents to give feedback on our vision statement and mission statement, that will formulate the draft charter," Mrs Dickson said.

"It's the first of many forums with the community."
