Introduced this year to NZSki ski areas, Mypass is a radio frequency identification card that visitors carry to gain access to ski lifts.
"Mypass has been the success of the season.
"We've had great feedback from customers," he said.
The new technology was also instrumental in detecting 36 people who forged fake passes this winter, 10 of whom were season pass holders.
"It is just really sad that so many people acted fraudulently this season.
"We will be tightening up and catching them all next year," said Mr Coddington.
Mypass also records user statistics which can be viewed online.
Users can look at the number of runs made, lifts used, and vertical metres covered.
The system has also proven a valuable marketing research tool for NZSki.
"It's great for us, as we are able to see which runs are most popular, and what days most people ski on," he said.
