Natalie Murphy has become part of the Ice Blacks' medical team, having been appointed the team's physiotherapist.
Ms Murphy, who is a physiotherapist at Queenstown Health, has worked with athletes from various sports - most recently with the All Blacks and Wallabies teams for the Bledisloe Cup in Dunedin.
Having worked with the Queenstown ice hockey team, the Southern Stampede, for the past two seasons, Ms Murphy has now found her way to the top of ice hockey in New Zealand.
''I am excited to be part of the Ice Blacks and look forward to [a] successful 2014 working alongside coach Andreas Kaiser and manager Graham Tappin and assistant manager Ross Burns,'' she said.
The present captain of the Ice Blacks is Queenstown's Bert Haines.
