The community is invited to get involved in the restoration of the historic boatshed and ticket office at the Frankton Marina by attending a meeting today.
The Wakatipu Community Maritime Preservation Society has secured funding from several sources, and has raised $536,000 of the total projected $702,000 cost of the restoration.
The Community Trust of Southland gave $98,000 and the Central Lakes Trust $200,000.
Society chairman Tony Butson said he was thrilled with the fundraising so far and he hoped to persuade interested parties to get involved.
The project will restore the 1930s-era boatshed and build a two-boat slipway, which in turn will become a useful and working community asset.
It also aims to document local maritime history within the old ticket office.
A public meeting will be held today at 5.30pm at the Steamer Wharf boardroom in the first-floor office suites at Steamer Wharf, Beach St.
