'Look after your mates'

Young men should ''look after their mates'' and ensure they get home after a night out drinking, Queenstown police say.

Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka said two cases of drunk and disorderly behaviour in the resort on Wednesday night and early yesterday showed what happened when drunk young men were left in town on their own.

A British tourist would appear in the Queenstown District Court next week on charges of disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest after being refused entry to Club 88 about 10.30pm on Wednesday.

The ''extremely drunk'' 26-year-old persisted in trying to enter the strip club and became ''highly agitated and aggressive'' when arrested.

In the second incident, the duty manager of a Searle Lane bar flagged down police to deal with a drunk and disorderly 20-year-old Dunedin man.

The man was arrested and later released on a pre-charge warning.

Snr Sgt Enoka said young men left alone in town after a night of drinking often got themselves in trouble.

''When you go out drinking, do your head count before you go home.''
