Public submissions are open for the latest application from the five-star Matakauri Lodge Ltd to build four guest rooms sleeping eight people on the southwestern corner of the Glenorchy Rd site.
The boutique lodge was bought by US billionaire Julian Robertson in 2009 and has since expanded, including the main lodge building, standalone accommodation buildings, carports and residential units.
The lodge, as it is, offers accommodation in 11 guest suites, with eight outlying cottages and three suites located in the main lodge.
Every suite has a private porch, bedroom with sitting area and open fireplace, walk-in wardrobe and bathroom.
Mr Robertson's son Julian, or Jay Robertson, has lived in the Queenstown area for two years and manages the lodge. He told the Otago Daily Times yesterday there was no plan to expand any further than the four bedroom units and the operators wanted to accommodate up to 30 guests at the most.
