After eight years traversing the globe on their 1994 750cc Honda XRV Africa twin motorcycle, Argentine friends Loreno Santiago and Julian Maiello (pictured on Marine Pde, in Queenstown) finally made it to New Zealand.
The motorcycle, dubbed La Porota, is named after Mr Maiello's grandmother and has clocked up 230,000km over 69 countries since the pair set off from Buenos Aires on February 25, 2002.
When asked why the pair would undertake such a gruelling odyssey, they respond in unison, ''Why not?''
They estimate it will take at least another five years to complete their goal of travelling to the world's 195 or so countries.
After New Zealand they head to Japan, then South Korea and onwards through Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
