Radio and television personality Jason Gunn broke two vertebrae in his back after climbing into a wheelie bin at a Queenstown house on Tuesday.
In a video posted on his Facebook page, Mr Gunn said he got into the bin ‘‘trying to squeeze that last bit of rubbish in''.
‘‘Started out well - getting into the bin not a problem. The dismount was shocking. I actually fell out, badly, landed on my arse is the word.''
He then shows off a back brace he is wearing.
‘‘I feel like Robocop, and I get to keep it.''
St John spokesman Ian Henderson told the Otago Daily Times an ambulance was dispatched to a Frankton Rd house at 8.50am on Tuesday.
Mr Gunn was taken to Lakes District Hospital with moderate injuries before being transferred by ambulance to Invercargill's Southland Hospital, he said.
