Ailsa Williamson, who plays Liesel, and Pol Nicholson (Rolf) come from Loch Ness and Edinburgh respectively and became friends after working together on the 2011 Remarkables Christmas Spectacular.
Nicholson said only when the two were together did their broad Scottish accents come out in force, but director Bryan Aitken had been working tirelessly to remove the accent ahead of next Thursday's opening night.
Williamson (26) performed the lead role of Maria in The Sound of Music seven years ago, in Scotland.
Nicholson (24), however, had never had an on-stage role in a musical production despite being musically-minded.
The Song Stars musical director said he was used to being on stage "but not in this way" and hadn't intended to audition.
`However, Williamson watched the musical again before her audition and told Nicholson Rolf "is you".
The pair were thrilled to find they would be working together on the production.
"I'm used to being myself on stage ... it's exciting," Nicholson said.
"It's going to be great - Bryan's done well teaching me how to open myself up."
The Sound of Music opens at the Queenstown Memorial Hall on May 17, with the season running until May 26.
