Hospitality trade show

Katrina Gordon Trade Shows Ltd will be in Queenstown this month, marking 21 years of bringing hospitality trade shows to New Zealand's regional markets.

The Queenstown trade show will be held at the Queenstown Events Centre on September 23 - the last of six trade shows being held in the South Island this year.

Spokesman Ross Milne said the trade show would showcase suppliers' products and services across a broad spectrum of the hospitality industry, from new "niche" food produce to convenience foods, herbs and spices, kitchen equipment, wine glasses, beds, "room amenities", cash registers and accounting systems.

There would also be plenty on display from local and national suppliers to interest the Central Otago hospitality industry, he said.

New to the Queenstown trade show will be wine seminars being run by The Big Picture Wine Adventure, which recently opened in the resort, and the Restaurant Association.

Also new is the www.hospotrade.co.nz-sponsored Golden Bean Eccellenza for coffee making.

A celebrity cooking competition, sponsored by Countrywide Distributors, would team local "celebrities" with local chefs to produce the chef's signature dish.

Also included in the show would be the Katrina Gordon Trade Shows/Sleepyhead bed-making competition, which would see room attendants attempt to set a world record for making a hotel queen size bed.

Mr Milne said there was no world record for making a hotel bed at the moment, but there was a world record for making a hospital bed.

Competitors had to individually fit the bed with a mattress protector, two sheets, a continental quilt and two pillows.

So far, the best time recorded in the trade shows was 1min 32sec.

Entry is by invitation only.
