The activity, similar to Rotorua's Zorb, has been proposed for the resort by OGO (Outdoor Gravity Orb) Queenstown Ltd for land near the 17th green of Jacks Point Golf Course.
Plans submitted to the Queenstown Lakes District Council as part of the proposal's resource consent application said four tracks were planned - two straight and two winding.
''The tracks will be formed by creating mounds to guide the balls along the desired path,'' the application said.
''At the base area a mound is proposed that will stop the balls and allow for people to exit.''
The application said the site ''is identified for the purpose of recreational activities, golf course and open space within the Jacks Point structure plan''.
The Jacks Point Residents and Owners Association had given written approval to establish and operate the activity, expected to cater for 165 customers a day, operating until 8.30pm during summer.
