Pupils at Queenstown Primary School had a special treat last week when the Highlander dropped in to share a few rugby and lifestyle tips with them.

As part of his round of visits around Otago to teach the children about the rugby team, the Highlander, who represents the Otago-based Super 14 rugby team the Highlanders as the team mascot, told the pupils about his rugby team.

He also gave the children a lesson in healthy lifestyle choices.

"During my years at Carisbrook, innumerable children have asked me how they can grow big and strong like me. So I came up with the idea to go out to the schools to talk to the children directly.

"After consulting nutritionists and Highlanders rugby players for advice, I developed a simple programme based on the five secrets to growing big and strong," the Highlander (Warrick Diack) said.

The Highlander told the children they must remember these five secrets every day:

• You must drink six to eight glasses of water.

• Eat two servings of fruit and three servings of vegetables.

• Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner.

• Stay active.

• And you really must try to have fun and work hard.
