There will be no repeat tomorrow of the Kiwi ingenuity used last weekend to keep Arrowtown's Jack Reid Park frost free.
The venue for the Otago Country premier rugby final will be left to the elements after being covered with hessian and polythene sheeting before last weekend's semifinal between White Horse Cup holder Arrowtown and Alexandra.
Heavy frosts and rain this winter have caused difficulties for the Bulls, with one of their "home" games played at the Queenstown Events Centre a couple of months ago.
The Arrowtown Rugby Club committee decided to do everything possible to ensure the ground was up to standard last weekend and, after considering a couple of options, chose Nick "Toddy" Johnson's suggestion of borrowing some hessian and polythene from the Kawarau Falls site where he works to cover as much of the field as possible.
"We put it on to concrete to stop it freezing [in winter] and in summer it stops the concrete going off too quick."
Club president Simon Spark said there had been no frost in Arrowtown since Saturday, which meant the ground was looking good ahead of tomorrow's final.
"We've taken all the coverings off, so it's up to the elements now."
Kick-off for the final is 2.45pm tomorrow.
