Gravel consent hearing adjourned

Queenstown Lakes district commissioners have adjourned to consider their decision in the Upper Clutha Transport gravel stockpiling and processing consent application.

Lakes Environmental consultant planner Scott Edgar changed his recommendation to one of approval at the conclusion of evidence on Monday.

Earlier, he had advised the application be rejected because of concerns relating to dust, noise, traffic and landscape issues.

Opposers Jo Dippie and Angus Gordon also changed their views during the hearing, after their concerns were allayed by new evidence and amended conditions offered by the company, including restricting operations to a south site and rehabilitating a north site to its natural state.

However, opposers Nick Bussy and Kate Ross remained opposed to the operation.

Ms Dippie said she felt the company had integrity and could be trusted to abide by any conditions imposed by the commissioners.

She was looking forward to stockpiled gravel being removed from Upper Clutha Transport's north site.
